What to look for in a comedian
People ask me what to look for in a comedian. There are a lot of good indicators of how good a comic is and whether they are right for your event. The following list are things you should consider when hiring a comedian..
1) Credibility - Does this comic work? A lot of people call themselves comedians but good comedians are usually working. They're working at Comedy Clubs, Private Parties, Fundraisers, Vegas, Atlantic City and more. The better comics are always working.
2) Website - Always good to visit a comics website to find out more about them. Also to see if there are video clips to view and where they are appearing and have appeared. The video clips are solid indicators as to whether this comedian isright for you. Does the comedian make you laugh?
3) Communicate with the comedian - Either through email or phone, it's good to speak with the comic to see if they are 'on the same page as you'. You don't want a comedian who isn't 100% interested in your event. Look for someone attentive, professional and polite. The comedian doesn't have to make you laugh while you're discussing your event, they have to make you laugh at the event.
4) Research - Don't be afraid to Google the performer and see what comes up.
5) A PA System - Does the comedian supply this? Any good Private Event Performer will have their own to bring with them.
6) Material - Make sure the comic knows what kind of material you want. Whether it's G Rated Family Friendly or R Rated Adult, the comic must know what kind of material he must perform for your event. This is where the research comes in.
I'm sure there are more but these are the first things that come to mind. When I book an event, there is nothing more important than that event to me. Every event is one of a kind and I will do my best to ensure a great time is had by everyone. Whether it's a show for firemen or a show for a senior center. I will make sure my material is appropriate for every indivdiual audience.
