Not all celebrity impersonators are created equal. There are questions you should be asking. First of all... know what you want before hand. Is it a meet and greet? Do you want a full show? Then you need to ask about the performer. Does he or she actually sing? Do you want someone who lip-syncs to pre-recorded tracks? Does the act provide a sound system?
We at D.B. Magic have worked with some great performers and some not so great. Don't be afraid to ask for references. Actually, make sure you do! We are all "self proclaimed" professionals. If you don't believe me... just ask me! You will get what you pay for. If you want a great act... get some references and start asking some questions. Don't be afraid to ask where he or she is performing so you can check it out. Any professional performer will have a video or audio clip. Just because I love Alice Cooper doesn't mean I'm gonna be chopping off my head and playing with snakes for your personal enjoyment.
We do what we do because we do it well. Not because we think it would be fun. I worked with a guy from N.Y. City who was a skinny little wisp of a man. I figured, "what does this little guy got to offer?" He pulled off one of the best Joan Rivers I have ever seen! A guy! Go figure! Later he did a stunning Liza Minnelli (he did lip-sync, though) But his portrayl was "dead-on". The sight of Joan Rivers doing a Red Carpet event with Marilyn Monroe was priceless. It cost Pratt & Whitney a fortune, but we wowed VIP's from China, Russia, Japan and places we've never heard of.
So... get into the mind set of what you want your event to be remembered for. I personally have a motto: I want the person who hires us to be thought of as a hero when the party is over. If we can make the host look fantabulous, we have done our job. The person will remember the host as well as the act. That is the most important thing. "Remember so & so's party? Man, that was a good time....." Nuff said...
