Baby Showers– What Would You do if it was: “No Kids Allowed”?
These days it’s becoming more and more common to receive invitations to parties, weddings and baby showers with the rather apologetic phrase: “No Children Please”. The first reaction of the recipient of the invite is often indignant surprise, but you need to try to look at it in its proper perspective.
Thirty mothers invited means sixty plus guests: If you invite 30 mothers, and each brings her kids, you will have over sixty guests, half of whom probably need to be supervised so that they don’t wreck the place! Most venues that are used for baby showers can’t accommodate that! Perhaps only half of the mothers bring their kids – that’s still 45 plus guests, 15 of whom need to be “kept an eye on”.
But baby showers are about babies, and babies become kids! That’s true, but put yourself in the position of the hostess. Wouldyou like more than ten kids running unsupervised around your place? And they also want to eat, don’t they. That all costs money, and if the venue is a restaurant, it can get very costly. If baby showers are held outdoors in good weather, and each mother supervises her own children, it’s a different matter. But too many mothers nowadays tend to sit back and enjoy themselves, and let their kids do as they please.
So try to understand if you receive invitations to baby showers that exclude your children. It’s not that nobody likes your kids! It’s a matter of practicality.
