Baby Showers – Should the Little Siblings Get Something Too? Do the little siblings of the coming baby get presents at baby showers? Only you can decide! Certainly it isn’t commonplace to bring agift for little Joey whose mother is having a baby soon. But it can be rather hard on small children when their mothers receive piles and piles of gifts, and they receive nothing. At Christmas, the kids get more than the adults! A true statement, so you can understand why it’s hard for them to stand by andwatch their mothers ripping the paper off of all the presents at baby showers. Most kids want to unwrap anything that is wrapped in bright paper, and sometimes it’s hard to prevent it, and it often ends in tears if the little people aren’t allowed to. There are various ways to get around this. Joey’s mother could let him help her to open the presents, and make him feel like he’s partof it all. Alternatively, Joey’s dad could take him to the zoo! But if Joey is going to be at the party, you, the guest, can decide whether or not you want to give him something small to open all by himself. There are no rules for baby showers that speak against this. So play it by ear. If you’re the dad, think about an alternative activity for the day. If you’re the guest, bring along something small for Joey. And if you’re the mother to be, and suddenly find yourself in the middle of a baby shower you knew nothing about, and Joey is with you, let him in on the interesting action of opening the gifts.
