Baby Showers – No Men Allowed! Times are changing, and in western cultures, more and more baby showers are for both women and men. But there are some cultures,especially old, very traditional ones, where men are taboo! Some baby showers,for instance that of the Hindu culture, are a celebration of the nearing motherhood of a young woman. It is a ceremony that follows a very specific format, and is only attended by women. What could the men do while the women are celebrating? Comeon dads! This is a super time to gather up your kids and take them off to the movies, the zoo or to a baseball match. Give mother some time out, and let her go to the baby shower without the kids. Many baby showers nowadays are “child free” for a number of reasons. Firstly, if ten women each bring one child, that’s 20 guests, where 10 were invited. Secondly, even if the children are catered for regarding refreshments, someone needs to entertain them. You could have a “dad’s and kid’s” day. Chances are that several of your friends will be in the same boat – the wife’s going off to a baby shower and doesn’t really want to take the kids. So why not get together with some of these dads and do something together with the kids! Baby showersgo on for an afternoon or an evening at the most, so it’s not so much time that you have to try to fill. So get creative, find a friend who’s also at a loose end, and plan together.
